In UAE Eid ul Fitr is likely to fall on April 10 and the public sector will observe the holiday starting from April 8, Monday (the 28th day of Ramadan). A 6-day off will be observed in UAE for employees including the weekend of April 6 and 7. The employees will report back to offices on April 12 Friday.

History of Eid ul Fitr

Eid ul Fitr is celebrated every year by Muslims across the world. The history of the holy Eid ul Fitr dates back to 624 AD. In the same year, the holy Quran was first revealed to the Islamic founder, Prophet Muhammed. The first Eid ul Fitr was celebrated in 624 CE in Medina after the end of the holy month of Ramadan. After a long fasting season (Roza) which lasts for around a month, the Eid ul Fitr is celebrated, marking the end of Ramadan.

Eid ul Fitr 2024 Moon Sighting Update: As per the recent update Kerala and Ladakh will celebrate Eid tomorrow (April 10, 2024) but Muslims living in Delhi, Bangalore, and Lucknow have to keep Ramadan fasting till tomorrow. 

Muslims all over the world whether in India, Pakistan, Australia, UAE, Singapore, Bangladesh, or South Asian countries are waiting for the moon sighting on April 9, 2024, but as per Ramadan 29, Hijri 1925 which marks the end of Ramadan and beginning of Shawwal observing Eid ul Fitr as the first day. On April 8, 2024 Muslims in Middle East countries UAE, Qatar, Oman, and Bahrain, were waiting for the moon sighting but they didn’t observe so they had to keep fasting on April 9, 2024. Muslims in Delhi, Bangalore, and Lucknow are expected to celebrate Eid on April 11, 2024. In some regions of the world moon sighting was visible on April 9, 2024, so they will continue to celebrate Eid on April 10, 2024. 

Eid al Fitr is celebrated on the first day of Shawwal which is the next day of the moon sighting as per the Islamic lunar calendar. In some Indian states, the moon sighting is visible and Eid will be celebrated on April 10, 2024, while in other states it will be celebrated on April 11, 2024. 

The moon sighting in two states- Kerala and Ladakh of India while the rest of the people will keep fasting tomorrow including major countries such as Bangladesh and some South Asian countries. For some Muslims, it would be 29 days of fasting season (Ramadan) while for others it would be 30 days.

The public sector in UAE and other Middle East countries will probably have a whole week off beginning from April 8, 2024 on account of Eid al Fitr 2024.
